Cockburn st was a lovely balance of installing modern features into a character filled home while still respecting and highlighting its heritage. This kind of project is perfect for us at Angus builders because there is a ton of problem solving, challenges to work through and a great deal of detailed carpentry scope which really aligns with our strengths as a team.
This project involved an extensive rebuild of the existing structure and adding a top master floorpan to the house. All of the bathrooms were completely renovated along with the kitchen and laundry areas. New living space was added outside in the form of a loggia.
One of the biggest challenges on this project was installing the new master floor level, effectively removing the majority of the roof and then blending all of the new roofing lines in to meet the old ones, as the existing framing had been settling for many many years they were not at the correct angles and were quite complex to tie into.
The only way we could overcome these challenges was to set up some good practical reference lines to create some new planes on the roof framing and then on the areas we were not touching we had to meet these in a clever place to be able to blend the new and old junctions.
All in all the result is a beautiful blend between new and old with some of the spaces that could have you mistaken for thinking you were in the old original grand villa, under the high stud ceilings and trimmed with heritage detailing. And then the modern when its important like the large open plan kitchen, the beautiful tiled bathrooms and the behind the scenes mechanics that make the home comfortable and enjoyable.
