Here’s what I reckon matters most:
1. You should feel comfortable talking to them
If you can’t have a straight-up, honest chat with your builder, it’s going to be a long and frustrating process. You want someone who listens, answers your questions properly, and keeps things clear.
2. They take pride in their work
Ask to see photos of recent jobs or even talk to past clients. A builder who stands by their work will be happy to share it. You want someone who genuinely cares about the outcome — not just ticking boxes.
3. They're organised and communicative
No one wants to be guessing what’s going on with their build. A good builder will give you realistic timelines, keep things moving, and let you know if something changes — before it becomes a problem.
4. Their quote is clear — not just the cheapest
The cheapest quote isn’t always the best one. Look closely at what’s included and what’s not. If something seems vague or too good to be true, ask questions. A good builder will be happy to explain how it all works.
At the end of the day, it’s about trust. You want a team that shows up, does the job properly, and treats your home with respect. Whether that’s us or someone else, you should feel confident in your choice — because a good build starts with a good relationship.
